Eric Adams NYPD Detail Linked to Crypto Kidnapper

A detective from Eric Adams' NYPD security detail has been placed on modified desk duty after it was revealed that he is connected with the two crypto entrepreneurs who were recently charged with kidnapping an Italian tourist.
The identity of the suspended detective has not been revealed, but it was published that he is a 20-year veteran of the department. One other member of the NYPD has also been placed on modified duty pending an investigation.
The two officers were reportedly working off-duty for the two businessmen who were just charged. While it is not uncommon for NYPD officers to pick up off-duty work, the circumstances surrounding this situation are a bit too bizarre to be ignored.
The two men had provided personal security for the townhouse where the Italian tourist was tortured. The detective from Adams' detail also may have picked up the tourist at the airport when he arrived in NYC, although it is currently unclear if he then transported the man to the home where he was held for 17 days.
It is possible that the cops involved were not aware of what was happening, and the NYPD made it clear that they would investigate whether the officers had any insight into the investigation, or if they participated in or were aware of the kidnapping plot.
In a statement, Eric Adams spokewoman Kayla Mamelak Altus said, "Every city employee is expected to follow the law, including our officers, both on and off duty. We are disturbed by these allegations, and as soon as it came to our attention, the officers were placed on modified duty. The investigation is ongoing."
